Mumbai:
Kamran Mohammad Khan, who was recently released on bail after being arrested under the NDPS (anti-drugs) Act, received a grand welcome that landed 45 people in legal trouble. His friends and supporters celebrated his release with loud music, firecrackers, and slogans — creating chaos and public disturbance. The celebration, which happened on July 16, was caught on video and later went viral online.
After Kamran walked out of Thane Central Jail, around 35 people — including former inmates — gathered near the jail. They then formed a car convoy and headed to Mira Road’s Nayanagar. There, the group burst firecrackers and shouted slogans near a hotel.
Police said the group played loud music and disturbed public peace, even creating panic among locals.
In the viral video, Kamran is seen hugging people while others light firecrackers, covering the area in smoke. The video showed clear violations of prohibitory orders in place at that time.
Taking action, the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police registered a case against 45 people under Section 189 (unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act. So far, 9 people have been named in the FIR, and police are working to identify the rest.
