The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 2 PM on Tuesday after Opposition members created a ruckus when their requests to discuss several pressing matters—including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar—were denied.

A total of 24 notices were submitted under Rule 267 by MPs from the Congress, RJD, and TMC, seeking a debate on issues like the Bihar SIR.

Among those who submitted notices were Congress leaders Ranjeet Ranjan, Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Rajiv Shukla; RJD MP Manoj Jha; and TMC’s Saket Gokhale. TMC’s Sagarika Ghosh also demanded a discussion on alleged discrimination against Bengali communities in other states. Another notice sought to raise questions over the sudden resignation of former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

However, Deputy Chairman Harivansh rejected the notices, citing previous rulings of the Chair. This sparked loud protests, with Opposition MPs shouting slogans and moving towards the Well of the House.

Despite repeated requests from the Chair to let Zero Hour and Question Hour proceed, the disruption continued, forcing the House to adjourn till 2 PM.

Earlier in the day, the Rajya Sabha had briefly functioned to congratulate chess player Divya Deshmukh, who made history by defeating Koneru Humpy in an all-Indian final to become the first Indian champion of the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup.

Later today, the House is also expected to take up discussion on Operation Sindoor.
