The institution was founded in 1962 and publicly opened by Pandit Jawaher Lal Nehru, the country’s then-prime minister, on July 8, 1963.
The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, will be marking its Diamond Jubilee Year with several activities all year long to recognize its six decades of contribution to the agricultural community via teaching, research, and extension. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, discussed this with university administrators on Tuesday and came to a decision.
Pandit Jawaher Lal Nehru, the country’s then-prime minister, officially launched PAU on July 8, 1963, after it had already been founded in 1962.
According to Dr. Gosal, the university’s name has grown associated with the Green Revolution during its past 60 years of existence. Several prestigious awards, including the prestigious Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree, have been won by its accomplished faculty and illustrious alumni, including the World Food Prize, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Award, Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award, Om Parkash Bhasin Award for Science and Technology, and Team Research Awards of ICAR.
He said, “The institution’s commitment to the agricultural community and the area of education is unmatched, and an appropriate homage to its wonderful service is well merited.”
