U.S. President Donald Trump has said he’s disappointed in Russian President Vladimir Putin, but hasn’t given up on him yet. In an interview with the BBC published on Tuesday, Trump made the remarks just hours after announcing new weapons for Ukraine and warning of sanctions against those who buy Russian exports.
“I’m disappointed in him (Putin), but I’m not done with him,” Trump said. “We’ll have a great conversation. I’ll think we’re close to a deal… and then he’ll go and bomb a building in Kyiv.”
On Monday, Trump announced a fresh supply of weapons for Ukraine and issued a warning: countries buying Russian goods could face sanctions unless Russia agrees to a peace deal. It marks a big change in U.S. policy, driven by growing frustration with Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine.
The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment.
