A major debate on Operation Sindoor is set to take place in Parliament next week, with 16 hours scheduled for discussion in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha starting July 29. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to intervene during the debate, as per sources.

BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya will move the motion in the Rajya Sabha. The decision to hold a detailed debate came after the Opposition repeatedly demanded answers regarding both the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s military response — Operation Sindoor, conducted on May 7.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the government’s response, saying, “Will the PM claim Trump arranged the ceasefire? He can’t, because Trump himself said it multiple times. If we won, why is Operation Sindoor still ongoing?”

In response, BJP’s Pradip Bhandari accused Gandhi of echoing Pakistan’s narrative and undermining the military’s success.

The Business Advisory Committee, which met earlier today, allocated dedicated time for this high-stakes debate. Both PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have been requested to be present.

Operation Sindoor was a precision military strike targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack. With growing political tensions and repeated disruptions in Parliament, the debate is expected to be heated.
