Lucknow – A Muslim religious leader, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, has been booked for making offensive and inflammatory comments about Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav during a TV debate. The incident came to light after local resident Pravesh Yadav filed a complaint at the Vibhuti Khand police station.
According to the complaint, Rashidi made objectionable comments about Dimple Yadav’s clothing during her recent visit to a mosque. The remarks were labeled as sexist, disrespectful, and potentially dangerous for social harmony.
The FIR states that Rashidi’s comments—made on both social media and television—were not just an attack on Yadav’s dignity, but also a provocation that could incite religious and communal tension.
“He used extremely offensive and anti-women language against Dimple Yadav, wife of former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, simply because she visited a mosque,” Pravesh Yadav wrote. “Such remarks harm women’s dignity and endanger national peace and unity.”
Police have filed charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
Section 79: Insulting a woman’s modesty
Section 196: Promoting enmity on religious or communal grounds
Section 197: Acts harmful to national integration
Laws under the IT Act were also applied due to the online spread of the comments.
The complaint also alleged that Rashidi’s tone reflected an “anti-national” attitude and hinted at possible links with groups trying to disrupt peace in the country.
Police have confirmed an investigation is ongoing, and further action will follow based on evidence gathered.
