A Dera devotee who was a defendant in a sacrilege case was shot dead by five guys on two motorcycles on Thursday in Kotkapura.
In the case of the theft of a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib from a gurdwara in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala, Pardeep Singh was one of the suspects. The event occurred in 2015.
He had been provided police protection while out on bail. Additionally hurt was his security man.
Since the first sacrilege crime was reported from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala in Faridkot on June 1, 2015, this is the seventh Dera adherent to have been slain in Punjab.
Gurdev Singh was killed on June 13, 2016, Sat Pal Sharma and his son Ramesh Kumar Sharma were killed on February 25, 2017, in Jaghera, Khanna; Mohinder Pal Bittu was killed on January 23, 2019, in Nabha Jail; Manohar Lal was killed on January 20, 2020, in Bhagat Bhai Bathinda; and Charan Dass was also killed (December 3, 2021, at Bhunder village in Muktsar).

He was fatally shot at his store on Kotkapura’s Hari Nau Road at 7 a.m.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the leader of Dera Sacha Sauda, is now incarcerated for 20 years after being found guilty of raping two female followers at his ashram in Sirsa, where the dera is based. In August 2017, he was found guilty by a special CBI court in Panchkula.
In the meanwhile, Moga has issued a warning after the murder of a dera devotee.
