Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra was sworn in on Monday as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Chief Justice Sheel Nagu administered the oath during a modest ceremony attended by judges, lawyers, officials, and family members.
Transferred from the Allahabad High Court, Justice Mishra will now serve as the senior-most judge after the Chief Justice. His transfer follows the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation made on May 26.
The Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification on July 14, confirming several judicial appointments and transfers across the country. As part of this, three senior judges from the Punjab and Haryana High Court—Justices Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Anil Kshetarpal, and Sudhir Singh—have been transferred to Rajasthan, Delhi, and Patna High Courts respectively.
Aged 56, Justice Mishra holds a degree in economics from Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College and a law degree from its Campus Law Centre. He enrolled as an advocate in 1993 and became a Senior Advocate in 2013. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2014 and became a Permanent Judge in 2016. Over the years, he has specialized in civil, constitutional, and service law, representing key development authorities like Noida, Ghaziabad, and Allahabad.
