In a shocking incident, the mother and wife of a jail inmate were caught trying to smuggle heroin into Faridkot Central Jail by hiding it in clothes meant for the prisoner.The accused, Charanjit Kaur and Veerpal Kaur — residents of Bilaspur in Moga — had come to the jail to meet Harpreet Singh, who is currently lodged there for a court hearing. He was earlier kept in Moga jail.

As per routine security checks, the clothes they brought were scanned and manually inspected. During the search, jail staff discovered 35 grams of heroin hidden in the garments.The contraband was immediately seized, and the matter was reported to higher authorities. A case was registered against the women under Sections 21(B), 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.Both women have been taken into custody. Authorities are now investigating where the drugs came from and whether others were involved in the smuggling attempt.The operation was carried out by Assistant Superintendent Karamjit Singh Bhullar and his team.
