Gehraiyaan Movie Review: Emotional Urban Drama Flix

On February 11, 2022, Amazon Prime Video will distribute the Bollywood film Gehraiyaan for on-demand viewing for the first time.

Directed by Shakun Batra and starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Pandey, Dhairy Karwa, and Naseeruddin Shah, the film is based on the novel of the same name by Naseeruddin Shah and directed by Shakun Batra.

Gehraiyaan means depth in Sanskrit. Therefore it’s no surprise that after seeing the teaser, many people expect a film with depth and meaning. However, is the film worth watching??

While this is true, the plot revolves around two couples: Alisha and Karan (Deepika Padukone and Dhiriya Karwa), as well as Tia and Zain (Shah Rukh Khan) (played by Anya Pandey and Siddhant Chaturvedi). As cousins, Alisha and Tia embark on an adventure together.

A thought occurs to them while making travel plans. To begin with, they learn that Tia and Karan were childhood friends, and then Elisha and Zane develop feelings for one another and begin an illicit relationship as a result of this attraction. The beginning of the story…

We’ll see how these relationships become more complicated as we move along. Seeing how these couples’ relationships progress while also getting a glimpse into each character’s past is an interesting juxtaposition. And in some way, every four people has a painful occurrence in their youth.

As a result, the story revolves mostly around Alisha, aka Deepika Padukone, in the film. For Alisha, her history is the most painful, which is why she carries it with her to this day.

In addition, she makes a conscious effort to move away from her former experiences at every step of the journey. As a result, all of these individuals are burdened by the effects of their past experiences on their present choices and relationships.

Let us inform you that the tale, promoted as a romantic and intimate film, takes a turn and the whole ‘it is a romantic film’ premise transforms as we continue forward.

Even if the plot is well-written and beautifully photographed, the viewer could feel that there is a lack of focus at times. Secondary characters and subplots have no explanation. Because Karan, aka Dhairya, is portrayed as an afterthought, it feels like a squandered opportunity to explore his backstory.

In addition, Naseeruddin Shah, who portrays Alisha’s father, has scant screen time even though he is a talented actor.

Shakun Batra is the film’s director. The film Kapur & Sons (2016), which we believe is the best of its kind, helped her build a large fan base. In the same way, the film’s focus was on family dynamics and their ups and downs.

To be fair, no one expected the plot to be anything but a romantic comedy, but Batra surprises everyone with the unexpected turns it takes. There is also a business game and even a crime-thriller in this picture.

Unquestionably, Shakun Batra has triumphed again as a director who strives to portray realism and complexity in his works, but there are also concerns with narrative clarity, particularly in the last half hour of the picture.

In addition, the film’s conclusion appears rushed, and elements are missing from the story that was present throughout the film.

Naseeruddin Shah and Deepika Padukone are cast members, including Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Pandey, Dheria Karwa, and others.

Because Naseeruddin Shah’s role is a parent frustrated by the fact that his daughter does not communicate with him, the film gave him plenty of screen time, character development, and attention.

When she took on the character of Deepika Padukone, she completely stole the show with her expressive performance and ability to manifest herself on television. As an actor, her performance in the film shows that she uses every scene to amplify her sense of power and effectiveness.

With his performance in Gali Buaye (2019), Siddhant Chaturvedi gained some ground on Deepika Padukone. Chaturvedi did an excellent job portraying her role, but the fact that Deepika was the opposite made all the difference!

When managing one’s emotions in the deep, Ananya Pandey is an excellent example. It is common for Pandey to be targeted by nepotism because of his bad performance in Students 2 (2019).

As a result, he was widely expected to perform well in the circle. His role in the film was underutilized, and he ended up being a supporting one.

In the end, Daria Karwa’s character lacks focus, as she just plays Alisha’s boyfriend. As a result, the caravan delivered on its promise to provide him with what he needed.

In summary, the film’s music and visuals are excellent, but the story often lacks clarity. The plot’s development was baffling and unplanned, but it was also more surprising than you might expect from a movie.

The casting was correct, but the age portrayal of Deepika Padukone and Ananya Pandey is incorrect, as we don’t believe they are the same age!
