Acting on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) has instructed all Police Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to strictly follow the court’s orders regarding the timely submission of medical reports in criminal investigations.
In an official circular, the DGP directed that all doctors in government hospitals and medical colleges must hand over X-rays, CT scans, and other medical reports to the investigating officers (IOs) within two days of preparation. He also ordered that all Station House Officers (SHOs) and IOs be informed of this directive and held accountable for ensuring the timeline is followed.
This move comes after the High Court expressed serious concern over repeated delays in the submission of crucial medical evidence and asked the state to improve the process. The circular further states that if any doctor fails to submit the medical report within the given two days, the IO will have the authority to take legal action for non-cooperation. Similarly, if the police delay in collecting these reports, it will also be treated seriously.
