Punjabi singer Bir Singh met the acting Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, on Friday and expressed regret for his actions.
The Jathedar shared that Bir Singh came forward on his own, without being summoned, and sincerely admitted his mistake. He expressed deep remorse and showed his respect for the Guru. The apology will be reviewed and considered appropriately.
The Jathedar added that Sikh institutions had valid concerns about the event in question, which included dance, music, and entertainment—elements that hurt Sikh sentiments. He emphasized that martyrdom holds a sacred place in Sikhism, and the event went against Sikh principles (Gurmat discipline).
He also said the government and its Language Department should stay within their limits. Matters related to Sikh religious events and principles should be handled by Sikh institutions, not government bodies.
