Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, honoring the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who defeated Pakistani intruders in the 1999 Kargil War.

Observed every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas marks India’s victory in pushing back enemy forces from the heights of Kargil during ‘Operation Vijay.PM Modi said this day is a reminder of the unmatched bravery of the soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. He added that their sacrifice will continue to inspire generations.

In 1999, Pakistani troops had secretly taken control of key mountain positions in Kargil, aiming to cut off Kashmir from Ladakh. But the Indian Army responded with a strong counter-offensive and recaptured the territory.
